We had a beautiful day last Saturday and decided it was a perfect day to head to Freeport for our annual "fun day". We drove Rt 84 and made a pit stop in Port Byron to get a picture of the kids with this big bike. Becki grew up seeing his "twin" in Sparta, WI, while driving to see cousins.
Our first stop was at the Krape Park Carousel. We have been riding this carousel since Katie was a baby! It is a family tradition that the kids look forward to every year.
We decided to ride the paddleboats for the first time. We generally visit Freeport in May or June every year. The paddleboats open Memorial Day weekend, so we haven't always had them available to use. We knew the kids would have fun so we tried it.

We had a few hours left in the day so we headed east to Rockford. We stopped at Atwood Center to see the birds of prey as well as walking across another cool bridge!
We ended our day in Rockford - dinner at Five Guys! It was a special treat since we don't have one local. It was a wonderful day full of fun memories, traditions and new driving games (like trying to get the other drivers to make googly eyes at us or wave back with their feet).
