Matt had last Friday off for his birthday holiday. We headed down to Peoria to find a number of boxes that have been planted the past few months. We were both surprised to find some neat areas of Peoria that we never knew existed. We ended up with 8 boxes and a personal exchange for the day. Not bad since we got a late start and we didn't do any "hiking" boxes since we had all of the kids. Thanks to the Locksmiths for planting family friendly boxes! It was great meeting you too!

This is the bridge we took to get to "River City" Letterbox - it was like the initial hill on a roller coaster! Wow!!!

I have to tell you that my Great-Grandfather Rosenberger actually helped develop some of those older beautiful parks long ago. My Grandma (now in Davenport) has a book about Peoria parks that mentions him in it several times. Both my grandparents grew up in Peoria as well as my mom & my aunt. It is a beautiful city and I always remember the lights at night as we would come over the top of the bluffs from East Peoria across the river when we would come to visit when I was little!
My dad had his first letterboxing experience with us when we were in Peoria for my Grandpa's funeral 3 years ago. At that time, only the Detweiller Park boxes were in Peoria - and we found them both. I am guessing due to the hike, you may not have gone for those. Sounds like you had a great time!

What a great history! Thanks for sharing. That is a wonderful heritage that your Great-Grandfather left for your family. We did get the Detweiller Park stamps last time went to Peoria (6/16/07). We found both boxes but one didn't have the stamp! We went there and there was a MAJOR soccer tourney going on. It was an adventure. There are quite a few boxes in the area now, definitely worth the trip!
Okay, so I'm an idiot, but the "Alex standing near the heart..." line was beside the highway pic and my eyes immediately went to the road pic. See the orange construction block on the right? I was thinking, "OMGosh, she's standing on the side of the road all by herself!!!" Okay, so it's still a bit early!
