We were told last year, that Katie would need eyeglasses eventually. The doctor told us that as long as she was being homeschooled, she should be okay. Once she started school, she started to complain of headaches and not seeing the board. I also noticed one Sunday that she couldn't read the words on the overhead at church. Last week, we got her in to the eye doctor and he confirmed that it was time for glasses. She informs us that the glasses are "boring" but seems to like them (deep down!) because she is more than happy to show everyone! I'd say from the smile - she is pretty excited about them!

Katie-isms
Katie has had some good lines this past week:
Matt's mom had a birthday yesterday so we called to wish her a Happy Birthday. Katie was still awake so she talked with grandma too. Here is the conversation that we heard:
"Hi Grandma. Happy Birthday!!"
"How old are you Grandma"
"Wow, that's WAYYYYY older than mom!"

While eating dinner tonight, Katie was telling me that she "really wanted the Crissa American girl doll...as well as Kirsten...as well as Kaya...and Molly. It is too bad they don't have Samantha anymore...oh yeah, all of their best friends and every accessory". I just told her that yes, that would sure be nice (if you know American Girl Dolls...you know that we are talking in the thousands for all of the things she listed off!). She finished the conversation by saying "Well, it is a good thing we have 182 days left 'til Christmas. That gives Daddy lots of days to work so we can buy them!"

Getting ready for bathtime, Katie told me that "when my hair gets really long...like Aunt Debbies or Ariel's (little Mermaid), I would sure like to have you (mom) put lots of curls in it and maybe color it red!" I told her that it would be a long time before I color her hair to which she replied..."oh, I know...when I get old enough, I will do it myself because you'll be dead!". Thanks kid...

No more thumb
Alex & I set up a chart a few weeks ago to encourage her to stop sucking her thumb. I told her that once we got 4 weeks worth of stickers that we would go shopping together.
We agreed that she was allowed to suck her thumb while in bed for the night (which she has since cut back on considerably). We also agreed that if we caught her sucking her thumb during the day, we would remind her to stop...if she stopped, she could still earn her sticker that day. Needless to say, she earned that shopping trip in 4 weeks! We had a fun date to Target where she picked up some Princess items from the $1 section and she enjoyed a cherry icee also! Here she is "sucking her thumb" while showing off her charts!

Curious George
We headed to the library this afternoon to meet our favorite monkey - Curious George. There were LOTS of people waiting with us and the kids got VERY antsy...but I think it was worth it when they saw why we were there (I hadn't told them what was happening due to the possibility of plans changing). Alex was not in a good mood (in need of a nap?) and chose not to have her picture taken. She seems to be shy when it comes to these situations. Will, on the other hand, ran up and tackled George...he was SOOO excited to see George! After we took the picture, we headed to the children's library and did the summer program scavenger hunt with a reward of Culver's ice cream. We will use that soon, I am sure!
We met up with one of Alex's preschool friends, Makenna.

Family Project for a Rainy Day
Matt's dad built this "wall" for the girl's bedroom last year. It has been a wonderful divider to keep their room separate from the family space. Yesterday we decided that we needed to do something to decorate the door. Since it was rainy today, we figured it would be a good day to do it! As is usually the case with me, I always forget that working with 4 young kids never goes as well as planned! To say that this family project was stressful would be an understatement!! However, it was well worth it, I think!
The before picture...we decided to forego the shirts (for the most part!)
Katie
Alex
Maddie
Will - putting his handprint on the door and getting paint all over!!
The end product...
