7 Year Pictures

Well, it is only 1 1/2 months late, but I finally got Katie's pictures taken for her 7th birthday. We went over to our friend's house (Brad & Kari, who used to live on the farm where we took our family pictures...they have now moved in to Bettendorf) to spend some time with them and so Kari could get some pictures of Katie outside. I think that we picked the hottest, most humid day...but Kari was able to get some great pics of Katie quickly so it wasn't too bad! Katie - we love you & are so blessed to have you in our lives. God has given you a beautiful spirit and a beautiful smile!

Night Caps

Katie has been keeping Grammy busy! She asked Grammy a few months ago if she would be able to make Alex & her a night cap (just like Laura & Mary wore on Little House on the Prairie)...of course, Grammy would need to make matching ones for their dolls too!! Grammy got side tracked with breaking her ankle and such...but she finished the girls caps this past weekend. Here are the girls showing their caps off (they have worn them every night!)...and being a bit goofy too!!

Happy Father's Day!!

We had planned (for the past month!) to head to Freeport, IL today. We woke up to cloudy skies and a cloudy/rainy forecast for Freeport. Urgh...what to do! We decided to give our day trip a try and prayed that we would stay dry. We all know how "fun" parks & letterboxing can be when wet!

We stopped in Lyndon to snag a new box by Dutch Girl, "The Farmer". It was placed in a nice cemetary with a chicago crime link. Very interesting! While here, Alex saw this little frog hopping around. Deb, do you remember catching these when we were younger from Mary's window well? We ended up seeing dozens of these mini-frogs throughout the day at different parks, etc.
Alex also found this "Mommy" frog...We ended this stop with a Father's Day picture of Matt with the kids at a GAR memorial...We headed north to Freeport and got some lunch, then on to Krape Park. The kids loved the huge wooden playground. After playing for a bit, we headed over to the carousel. The twins actually did good on the ride this year. They weren't sure at first, esp. Will...but once it started, I slowly removed my hand from their backs and they were smiling and laughing by the end. As soon as we got off of the carousel, we noticed that it was pouring down! How did we miss that?? We ran for shelter and played on this old firetruck (notice how wet Maddie is!). We decided it would be best to head to Union Dairy for the traditional ice cream treat. To say that the kids were excited about this stop would be an understatement! Union Dairy is an old fashioned style ice cream/soda shop. The kids love looking at all of the ice cream flavors! They all chose the lovely blue "play dough" ice cream. It must have been good, all was eaten!
Next to Union Dairy is the Lincoln / Douglas Debate Square. Freeport has done a great job of making this square beautiful and a good history lesson! We ended our day finding 3 boxes by River Rat: Where the Buffalo Roam, Lake La-Aqua-Na boxes #3 & #4 (we were finally able to finish this series after 2 years!). We ran out of time to look for Hiker Babe's boxes in the same park - Next year!

Happy Father's Day Matt! We love you & you mean so much to us! We hope that you enjoyed your day.

Downpour & Flooding

We have had two major storms this past week...causing lots of damage around the QC and much flooding. Here two pictures of our street. In the 8 years we have lived here, we have only seen this street flood 3 times...twice this past week! We are thanking God that we haven't had any water in our basement and only lost a few branches from the storm on Friday.

Quad City Air Show

The Quad City Air Show is this weekend. We have been blessed with having the Blue Angels here - it is AMAZING to watch them fly the blue skies! Coming out of the post office Thursday morning, the twins & I were buzzed by 5 blue angels! We ended up driving out to the airport to see if they landed there...and they had!

Maddie & Will checking out the planes

Later that afternoon, I took all 4 kids out to the airport and we witnessed 4 of the planes taking off and 2 coming back in...again...amazing!!

Today we went to Matt's old work office and watched the skies for a few hours. Here are some pictures to share. Will pretty much kept his hands over his ears the whole time!

We had just been surprised by a Blue Angel that went directly over us - flying VERY low!

Splashing in the Fountain

Matt told me about a huge water fountain in Muscatine, IA (about 30 min. south of us on the Mississippi River) a few weeks ago. We finally got a warm night to pack up the kids and went to play in the water.

Once there, the kids LOVED it.
