And the Tree Came Down...

With our new siding & windows in place, we knew it was time to get estimates to have our tulip tree taken down. This tree has been a nuisance to us for the past 9 years! It drips massive amounts of sap from April - September (first frost). We have to (annually) power spray our driveway & front walk/porch. Our old siding was filthy in that front corner due to the continual dripping. Your shoes stick to the ground whenever you walk out to the street! Matt's car would be washed & clean one day and dripping in sap the next! It was a bug (bee) magnet!! We are so excited to have this tree gone! God blessed us with a great company who needed work during this slow season...they were able to give us a great price AND get it done within the week!

This was also a great day for the twins...it was an expensive babysitter...but they loved it!!

Gentleman #2

Okay, so maybe I need to take more initiative with Will. While we finished our evening at Chick Fil A last night, he said that he needed to go potty...so we got our coats and headed to the bathroom. Upon entering, he tried to go into the handicap stall but I informed him that someone was in there (appeared to be a worker changing to her street clothes). He headed for the neighboring stall...a minute later I realize that I still hadn't heard him use the toilet...about that time he starts saying "Mommy, only one girl there"...I glance down in horror and find my son kneeling on the floor and watching the girl get dressed!! I quickly scolded him and apologized to the girl. Luckily, it didn't seem to phase her!

Learning to be a Gentleman

We are actively trying to teach Will how to be a gentleman. I saw an opportunity to teach him about opening doors tonight. We walked up to Chick Fil A (just Will & mommy) and he ran up to open the door. He then opened it all the way and stood in the middle of the doorway, preventing me from walking in. I told him that he needs to open the door and then move back so that the lady can walk through. He did that and I walked through. I stopped at the next door, expecting him to come running from behind to open it...when he didn't come up, I looked behind me. I found him still holding the first door open and looking outside.

Mommy: Will, are you coming to open this door?
Will: I looking for lady, Mommy.
...Moment of silence...then light bulb turning on!
Will: Oh, are you lady, Mommy?

At that point he came running to open the next door and I gave him a big hug and we shared a laugh.

Our "New" House

Our old house is like new!! The roof, siding & windows are now complete as well as enclosing the front porch. However, is the job really EVER done? We need to insulate and drywall front porch...does anyone know a good plasterer?? : ) We would like to finish the front porch with 2 benches, built in shelves and hanging rods to hang up coats. Hopefully by this summer, the porch will be done. I would also like to paint the garage, the apartment entry door and the back french door. Lots to do!! Here's a few pictures of before and after...
