With Maddie leaving to head back to Guatemala at the end of July, we packed in a few family favorites in the weeks before she left. On this particular day, we headed to Freeport, IL for our annual day trip.
Once in Freeport, we grabbed lunch then headed to Krape Park.
We did the rock climb (photo op) and then walked around the sculpture garden.

Kaitee is so proud of her dowry, 😂
We slayed the dragon!!

The new Mini Golf course is finished! We decided to play a game. It was a lot of fun with lots of laughs!

A few of the holes had this spinner, It was a fun twist to the different holes (you will see "obstacles" in some of the pictures, as well as hitting backwards, using the handle instead of the putter side, etc)

Maddie tallied the scores - the kids were schooled by their parents! LOL. Matt beat me by 4 strokes...we beat the kids by a lot more!
The kids have been riding this merry-go-round since they were babies! Hard to remember how little they once were.
Maddie sat all proper - side saddle!
I don't know that we've ever walked the path near the park entrance?? If we have in the past, it's been many years. There is a small garden with a fountain and flowers.

We had planned to ride the paddle boats, but after the last minute decision to play mini-golf, we scratched the boats from our plans. At this point, we went our separate ways. Maddie, Will & I walked the park road along Yellow Creek, which loops around to the top of the waterfall and back down again. Kaitee & Matt walked over to duck pond to see the ducks up close.

The next stop is always a favorite - Union Dairy for ice cream!!

Right next to Union Dairy is the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Square

We hit the Freeport Goodwill and then drove to Rockford to visit Sinnissippi Park (about 40 minutes east). This park is always a beautiful stop and a perfect way to end our day. So peaceful and the flower gardens are impressive!
Giordano's Pizza for dinner! Deep dish Chicago pizza is always a great meal!

Our day in Freeport comes to an end. We don't know how many more annual trips we have with the kids so we try to be intentional with the time we have together. Today was a great day!
