Day 8 - We checked out of our Mandan hotel and hopped on I-94, heading towards Fargo. We had a very short day of driving (3 hours), with a few planned stops along the way.
Because we had time on our hands, we stopped at a Goodwill in Bismark before buying some yummy treats at Dakota Nuts & Candy Shop.
We stopped to see Sandy, the World's Largest Sandhill Crane, in Steele, ND.

Next stop was in Jamestown, ND to see the World's Largest Buffalo Monument. We hunted for a few letterboxes, visited a few shops and had fun taking pictures. We stopped in Jamestown in 2018 with the kids. We enjoyed reminiscing about that day.

It's hard to see, but there's a herd of buffalo on the hill, to the left of my head.

We stopped for lunch and then headed to our final destination for the day - Fargo. We had fun taking pictures and walking around the grounds at the ND Welcome Center in Fargo - seeing the Woodchipper from the movie Fargo (the original woodchipper was inside the welcome center) and the Walk of Fame.

Whatcha think?? Twins? Just missing the badges, lol!

From here, we crossed the river into Moorhead (MN) where we found the Hopperstad Stave Church in Viking Ship Park. While there, we played on some handmade teeter-tooters.

The Moorhead Dairy Queen was one of the first Dairy Queens to open (1949 by Bob & Phyllis Litherland). They were also credited with inventing the Dilly Bar (hence the large Dilly Bar statue out front).
As the story goes - 2 brothers from Stillwater came to the Moorhead DQ. They had "been toying with a soft serve product they wanted to make. Bob Litherland watched as the brothers blobbed Dairy Queen soft serve on a wax paper and put a medical tongue depressor stick into the soft serve. After freezing the treat and coating it in chocolate, one brother held the creation up and said, 'Now, isn't that a dilly!' "

My only regret for the day...not purchasing a Dilly Bar to eat, while standing in front of the "World's Largest Dilly Bar".

The cow wouldn't share his ice cream...

We spent a few hours looking for letterboxes in the area, grabbed a late dinner and checked in to our hotel for the night. It was a very low key, but fun, day. A day full of "oddities" and many memories made, for sure!
