We left Bozeman and headed towards Kalispell. We made a quick pit stop at Three Forks - I saw the opportunity and seized it. I love that the kids are good sports about the silly things I make them do!
We found the Capital Building in Helena - beautiful flowers and the state outline too!
We were traveling on July 4th - You'd never guess from our "less than patriotic outfits"! I thought we might hit parade traffic through Helena, but we were fortunate to get through the capital with no issues. (We weren't so lucky later as we had a parade detour...Matt even decided to do some off-roading during the detour! Okay, it wasn't THAT bad, but he did tell the kids to be sure to stick with routed detours in the future!)
Some fun statues/artwork on the side of the hill. We thought they were real horses...until we got closer and realized they weren't moving and that half of them were "dressed" - are they playing shirts vs skins?
We ended up taking a very scenic route (Rt 83?) through the Flathead National Forest. Lots of lakeside parks, resorts/cabins, etc. By the time that we drove through this area, the tireds had caught up with us again.
Seven hours later, we arrived in Kalispell and checked in to our hotel. We unloaded our vehicles, started laundry, took showers and then headed out to find some dinner.
These pictures are from Connie's camera - after dinner, we saw the start of a beautiful sunset and this hot air balloon. We got back to the hotel and settled in for the evening - kids watching tv & taking advantage of the hotel Wi-Fi for their tablets; Matt, Becki & Ken sat outside their hotel rooms, enjoying each other's company and the quiet of the evening; Connie & John drove out in to the country a bit to get some pictures of the sunset. It was a much needed quiet evening for everyone - we had another early morning and long day ahead of us.
